Healthy Living With Arthritis

Globally, millions of people are affected by arthritis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1 in 4 adults have arthritis that has been diagnosed by a doctor. Arthritis can lead to severe joint pain, thereby limiting the activities people normally do in their everyday lives. This can affect their mental health and ability to work and participate in beneficial physical activity. Additionally, arthritis often co-occurs with other chronic conditions. Listen to the October Healthy Living with Arthritis podcast focused on recently published national arthritis prevalence estimates among adults 18 years and older.

CDC’s Arthritis Management and Wellbeing Program recognizes five self-management strategies for managing arthritis and its symptoms.

  1. Learn new self-management skills
  2. Be active
  3. Talk to your doctor
  4. Manage your weight
  5. Protect your joints

The NACDD Arthritis Portfolio partners with CDC-funded recipients and other national partners to expand state capacity to address arthritis through technical assistance and support and leveraging partners/networks to promote arthritis-appropriate evidence-based interventions (AAEBIs). Arthritis is a portfolio in the Center for Advancing Healthy Communities.
