ATLANTA (Nov. 29, 2022) – The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) has published its 2023 Member Guide, “Sowing Seeds of Health for Justice.” In addition to serving as a handbook for NACDD Membership, the Guide reinforces NACDD’s commitment to health equity and combatting racial disparities through its content.

“Equity is not only a written or oral commitment, equity is an action,” said NACDD Board At-Large Director Teresa Aseret-Manygoats, MPA. “NACDD and the Board have been dedicated to providing state chronic disease programs with solutions to address systems that create barriers for accessing prevention and healthcare services; ensuring useability of data and recommendations by communities most affected by health and social disparities; and engaging partners and populations with high burden in program planning and decision-making. As chronic disease leaders, these resources build our capacity to utilize our ‘spheres of influence’ to make actionable change.”

The 2023 Member Guide includes links to several health equity tools, including the new Health Equity Primer. The Primer lays out well-defined terminology, evidence-based theory, and provides case studies. The goal is to offer Members a deeper understanding of health equity and the processes by which to achieve it.

The Guide also introduces Members to the NACDD’s new platform to connect and engage with public health peers, the NACDD Engagement Community. In addition to linking Members to one another, the Engagement Community also provides a rich library of resources, tools, and other items to support and publicize their work.
