The Lupus School Health Outreach Project

Impact Brief – June 2022

NACDD and The American College of Rheumatology (ACR) are working with four contracted state partners to educate school healthcare providers on the signs and symptoms of lupus, and how to support students and their families in the transition from pediatric to adult lupus care.

The School Health Outreach Project, created by the ACR received the American Society of Association Executives The Power of (A)ssociation Gold Award in 2021 in the category of Community Support and Engagement. This award acknowledges the association’s contributions to the community at the local, national, and global levels.

State partners include community-based organizations in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Pennsylvania. Each state partner works with local school districts and pediatric rheumatologists to provide the training to at least twenty school healthcare providers.

NACDD would like to thank all contacted Chronic Disease Directors and State Health Department employees for the introductions, referrals, and support.
