Cardiovascular Health Council Updates

Impact Brief – June 2022

From May 16-18, 2022, the CVH Council Leadership Team, consisting of the Chair, Past Chair, and Chair-Elect, and the Evaluation Peer Network Recipient Representatives met for strategic planning, including setting outcomes and activities for the CVH Council that will support all health department staff addressing heart disease and stroke prevention strategies nationwide.

Cardiovascular Health Council meeting

This was the first time the CVH Council Leadership Team (LT) and Evaluation Peer Network (EPN) Recipient Representatives met in person for strategic planning work in almost five years. The meeting provided an opportunity to gather input directly from CVH Council leadership to be intentional about CVH programming, communications, and professional development. The meeting was held at a pivotal time with a newly elected leadership and as states are preparing for future funding that may look very different and will likely have a major focus on health equity. NACDD’s CVH Team also sees this relationship with the CVH Council LT and EPN as important for strengthening relationships with our various partners within CDC’s Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention.

In setting priorities, the Leadership Team and EPN Recipient Representatives considered feedback received during listening sessions that focused on evidence-based heart disease and stroke prevention strategies and support needed to address health disparities, health equity, and health inequities. One priority area from this meeting is to increase communication across CVH Council activities. A website highlighting the CVH Area Networks is now available, including results of a process evaluation that was conducted to deepen the understanding of connecting colleagues via a peer networking model. View the evaluation summary of results.

The CVH Council meets quarterly on the fourth Wednesday. The Evaluation Peer Network meets bi-monthly. Contact us to learn how to join these calls.

The CVH Council’s main channel for communication is Off the Cuff, a brief, mostly weekly newsletter that is sent out on Monday mornings. In addition to information on the CVH Council, the newsletter provides brief highlights of upcoming webinars and calls, questions posted from peers, and news and resources from national partners related to heart disease and stroke.
