As part of NACDD’s Center for Public Health Leadership mission to build the future of public health through workforce development, strategic leadership, and organizational capacity, the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and Evaluation Learning (SEEL) Network (formerly known as the Epidemiology and Surveillance Interest Group) was launched in June 2023. The SEEL Network provides a forum for epidemiology, surveillance, and evaluation professionals to network, share experiences, and explore new topics and methods.
The Learning Network meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month for one hour at 1 p.m. ET (12 p.m. CT, 11 a.m. MT, 10 a.m. PT, 9 a.m. AKT, 7 a.m. HST, 3 a.m. ChST) via Zoom. Sessions can include presentations from federal, state, and local public health practitioners, as well as cross-sector partners. Participants are encouraged to share their work, learn from each other, and build collaborative relationships.
Since its launch, 187 public health professionals across 42 states, the District of Columbia, and the Federated States of Micronesia have joined the SEEL Network. From March 2024 to April 2025, we hosted twelve sessions on topic including:
- Measuring Rural
- Navigating Data Governance
- Establishing a National Plan for Chronic Disease Surveillance
- Artificial Intelligence in Public Health
- Small Area Estimation
- Measuring Health Impact Through Planning and Evaluation
- Surveillance System Evaluation in the Era of Data Modernization
- Enhancing Chronic Disease Surveillance Using Syndromic Surveillance Systems
- Data Dashboards and Visualizations
- Evaluation of Chronic Disease Programs
Informal feedback gathered through polls and session discussions shows participants find value in the SEEL Network.
