Cancer Council Leaders: A Note of Gratitude

The NACDD Cancer Council‘s Executive Committee and Steering Committee include twenty NACDD Members who work in one of the four CDC-funded national cancer programs: National Breast and Cervical Early Detection Program, National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program, National Program of Cancer Registries, and the Colorectal Cancer Control Program.

These NACDD Members serve in elected and non-elected positions. They are a collective voice for change; together, they build and sustain connections across multiple public health organizations to inspire strategic action for cancer prevention and control. The leaders also promote communication and action within the NACDD Cancer Council – a community of over 700 public health professionals.

NACDD is proud to recognize the significant contributions that each member of the 2024-2025 Executive Committee and Steering Committee has made. In particular, there are three Cancer Council Members who are moving out of their Leadership positions this month.

Katie Jones has served as the Council’s Chair for two terms due to an unanticipated staff turnover. Katie has eloquently guided the Leadership Team through twists and turns over the past few years. She asks hard questions, keeps the Cancer Council work moving, and has an unmatched dedication to cancer programs across the nation.

Mary Ellen Conn has served as the Council’s Past Chair for the past two terms as well. Mary Ellen’s deep knowledge of the cancer prevention and control landscape, matched with her commitment to public service, has been a guiding light for the Leadership Team.

Lisa Mei has completed her two-year term as the Council’s Member at Large. Lisa has been a reliable team member who has contributed thoughtful ideas for professional development content and discussions that will have a positive impact on all Council Members.

We are grateful to Katie, Mary Ellen, and Lisa for their commitment to the NACDD Cancer Council.

Please join us in thanking the following individuals for sharing their dedication, service, and passion for the larger cancer prevention and control public health arena. These esteemed public health practitioners have guided the NACDD Cancer Council in countless ways from leading workgroups, to liaising with partners, to managing the mentoring program.
