NACDD remains dedicated to supporting its Members’ efforts to prevent cancer in their regions and across the U.S. Currently, NACDD’s cancer programming supports 59 State and Territorial Health Departments, and many tribal, non-profit, and academic institutions.
Our staff and subject matter experts in our Cancer Portfolio are working on three projects related to preventing cancer and one project related to supporting cancer survivors. In partnership with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we are:
Enhancing cancer program capacity through peer-to-peer learning. Our Cancer Peer-to-Peer Learning Program is a recipient-informed learning and engagement opportunity that supports organizations who are funded by CDC to implement the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program and the Colorectal Cancer Control Program. Participants get a unique experience of connecting and learning from each other’s public health successes and challenges. By regularly convening with peers, more than 350 public health professionals from across the U.S. have strengthened their region’s access to lifesaving cancer screening services.
Providing technical assistance for cancer leadership and collaboration. The NACDD Cancer Council is a professional network for program staff from State, Territorial, and Tribal Health Departments, and other organizations who receive funding from CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control. The Council serves more than 450 program staff in each of CDC’s four National Cancer Programs:
- National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program
- National Program of Cancer Registries
- National Comprehensive Cancer Control Program
- Colorectal Cancer Control Program
The Cancer Council provides leadership and professional development, discussions on emerging topics, mentoring, and networking opportunities.
- Strengthening the National Program of Cancer Registries by enhancing education and training capacity and infrastructure. We provide customized webinars and educational content for users of the Fundamental Learning Collaborative for the Cancer Surveillance Community (FLccSC).
- Supporting young breast cancer survivors, metastatic breast cancer patients, and their families. Through this project, we are partnering with select organizations to expand psychosocial support networks for young breast cancer survivors, metastatic breast cancer patients, and their families. We also conduct secondary research and create educational materials for survivors, caregivers, and healthcare providers.
If your organization could use support in ensuring preventative cancer services are accessible to residents in your region, reach out to us at info@chronicdisease.org. We’d love to hear from you.
