In June 2023, NACDD launched the Epidemiology and Surveillance Interest Group (E/SIG) tailored for state health department practitioners. The E/SIG is designed to meet the needs of state-level chronic disease epidemiologists and public health surveillance professionals beyond routine grant-related activities.

The E/SIG promotes knowledge sharing, networking, and exposure to a variety of topics and methodologies outside of daily work. Some key areas of interest include:

• Measuring social determinants of health
• Assessing program impact on health equity
• Quantifying special populations
• Identifying best practices for measuring demographics (e.g., gender, sexual orientation,
  race/ethnicity)
• Enhancing chronic disease surveillance with clinical data
• Using mapping in chronic disease surveillance
• Providing local estimates, especially in rural geographies
