The Center for Public Health Leadership has successfully completed the second cohort of the Physical Activity and Nutrition Partner Engagement Learning Lab. Participants from Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Michigan worked with an NACDD team of subject matter experts to develop their partner engagement strategies, deepen their understanding of Collective Impact principles, and help their teams plan for State Physical Activity and Nutrition funding opportunities.
During each of the eight Learning Lab sessions, participants focused on one of the equity strategies outlined in the Centering Equity in Collective Impact article used as a foundational resource for the learning lab. Weekly topics included:
- Starting with equity and sustainability
- Grounding the work in data
- Shifting power within the collaboration
- Focusing on systems change
- Listening to and acting with community
- Building equity leadership and accountability
Each session also included key steps, tools and activities designed to help participants identify partners and develop plans and strategies for engagement to advance their physical activity and nutrition equity goals. In addition, coaching sessions with subject matter experts and time for peer sharing and learning through discussion and reflection on partner engagement approaches across state teams were also offered.
All participants reported making progress in their partner engagement approaches for addressing their physical activity and nutrition equity goals and have secured funding through multiple sources, including CDCâs State Physical Activity and Nutrition (SPAN) program, to continue their work.
