The in-person Chronic Disease Directors meeting facilitated by NACDD in August 2026 was, in a word, powerful. This was the first time CDDs were brought together for in-person connection in several years.
Guided by the Center for Public Health Leadership and NACDD Senior Leadership, 45 directors from states, territories, and freely associated states engaged in facilitated discussions on emerging issues, shared strategies for strengthening chronic disease outcomes, and explored opportunities for collaboration across jurisdictions.

The meeting kicked off with tailored leadership development workshops led by Dr. Stellie Kim, a human-centered business strategist with a background in clinical psychology. Dr. Kim highlighted key leadership skills, abilities, and challenges faced by leaders across the public health landscape. Assumptions were challenged, strategies were identified, and connection was made.
Day 2 was dedicated to peer learning and learning from NACDD leadership. During this time, participants heard updates on programs, policy activities, and opportunities for Member involvement. CDDs also participated in peer coaching circles where they could learn from and with each other about their own unique challenges and opportunities in leadership. This was a powerful opportunity to connect with peers and create a sense of belonging.
In addition, the Pacific Chronic Disease Council met in person to align on regional priorities and continuing their engagement through dialogue with NACDD’s Board of Directors, adding a powerful dimension to the week.
As the meeting came to a close, one message resonated clearly: connection fuels impact. By coming together, Directors strengthened relationships, expanded their leadership capacity, and reignited the momentum needed to advance chronic disease prevention nationwide. This engagement was a reminder of the collective power of our Members and a fresh sense of optimism about the path ahead.
