January 2017 | A 50 State Survey of Laws that Affect Insurance Coverage for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Training Participation in diabetes self-management education and training (DSME/T) remains low, particularly among underinsured individuals. Insurance coverage can be a tool for improving delivery of and access to DSME/T. This webinar reviewed findings from a 50-state analysis of laws and policies addressing public and private insurance coverage for DSME/T. Presenters provided an overview of the Policy Surveillance Program’s interactive website where users can create customized reports based on the available research and information on national trends in DSME/T insurance coverage and the availability and characteristics of this coverage. |

September 2016 | How to Leverage CBS Broadcast Prediabetes Campaign in Your State CDC funded development of three 30 second messages on prediabetes, hosted by Dr. Ann Albright, Director of CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation. States can arrange broadcast of these messages in their local broadcast market, in physician offices and via third-party websites to support their prediabetes awareness activities. On this call, John Patton, NACDD Communications Director, described how states can take advantage of the opportunity. |

Increasing Coverage of the CDC-Recognized Lifestyle Change Programs for State Employees Part 2: Outcomes and Implementation This was the second webinar in a two-part series highlighting the work of four states – Colorado, Kentucky, Minnesota and Washington. Health department staff in these states were actively involved in obtaining coverage of the CDC-recognized lifestyle change programs, part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, for state employees. State presenters provided an overview of how their state is implementing this coverage, shared the outcomes to date, and offered key lessons learned. |

September 2015 | Introducing New Online Resource Guides This webinar introduced two online resource guides for school nutrition, school physical education and physical activity, and the management and care of chronic conditions in schools: 1) NACDD’s School Health Online Resource Guide, designed to support CDC FOA-1305 strategies and performance measures related to school health, including key resources and policy guidance, example activities, strategies and tools to support school health partnerships with information on the Whole School, Whole Community, Whole Child (WSCC) model, and an interactive school environment to access model and sample policies; and 2) SHAPE America’s Comprehensive School Physical Activity Program (CSPAP) website that features information and guidance on CSPAP, how to get started and steps to develop a CSPAP, professional development for CSPAP, and other resources. |

Enhancing Diabetes Management in Schools: Policy, Protocol, and Collaboration This webinar provided an overview of the key components of a comprehensive diabetes management program for schools, including elements to include in policy and protocol. A case study highlighted strategies for improving collaboration between schools, families, and the student’s healthcare team, and explained the role that a state health agency played in initiating and facilitating the collaboration.

April/May 2016 | Improving Chronic Disease Learning Tool Webinars – Parts 1, 2, & 3 This webinar series developed as training in support of the Act on Data Improving Chronic Disease Coordination Systems Thinking Learning Tool Project. Part 1 provides an overview of the training, describes the purpose of the systems Thinking Learning Tool and takes participants through framing exercises. Part 2 builds on the framing exercises and provides instruction on running simulation exercises. Part 3 implements framing exercises for different purposes (eg. a new funding approach, determinants of health) and teaches participants how to design their own sessions. All three parts were presented by Chris Soderquist, a systems thinking expert with Pontifex Consulting. This 6-minute video introduces systems thinking concepts using chronic disease prevention and control as an example and is intended for people new to systems thinking. |
