Impact Brief – October 2022
Arthritis is on the rise in the United States and is a leading contributor to chronic disease burden and a top cause of morbidity, work limitations, and reduced quality of life. More than 54 million U.S. adults have arthritis, half of whom are of working age, and 78 million are projected to have it by 2040. Arthritis limits physical function and quality of life; additionally, it commonly co-occurs with other chronic conditions that are leading causes of death, such as heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, and can interfere with management of these conditions through its effects on limiting physical activity.
The NACDD Arthritis Team is working to help state and national partners take action against arthritis and increase their knowledge, strategically build their skillsets, improve their capacity to disseminate arthritis-appropriate evidence-based interventions (AAEBIs) and make progress toward their respective state or national arthritis health improvement goals.
