Impact Brief November 2021

NACDD’s Cardiovascular Health (CVH) Council meets quarterly and is a virtual network of all CDC and state and local partners convened to support and improve implementation and evaluation of CDC DHDSP-funded programs. The CVH Council is open to health department program staff, epidemiologists, evaluators, and affiliated partners from across the country.

The most recent CVH Council call was in October. A presentation from Kinetra Joseph and Virginia Williford from the CDC Foundation highlighted the Million Hearts^® communication campaigns. These are national, prevention-focused communication campaigns to help more people understand their personal risk for heart disease and stroke, believe in their power to change it, and take steps that lower their risks. The campaigns are led by the CDC Foundation with support from the “Alliance for Million Hearts^®” – a public-private coalition that includes NACDD. CVH Council members had the opportunity to provide feedback on the campaign. An update on the National Hypertension Control Roundtable also was provided in addition to reports from other NACDD Councils,  CVH Area Networks, and the Evaluation Peer Network. Area Networks, led by appointed liaisons, facilitate sharing of promising ideas and state-developed resources among those working on 1815 and 1817 Category B strategies. The Evaluation Peer Network provides evaluators and epidemiologists working on 1815 and 1817 a community for exchanging tips and best practices.

The CVH Council meets quarterly on the fourth Wednesday. Area Network calls also are held quarterly and can be attended by anyone working on DHDSP-funded programs within their designated geographic area. The Evaluation Peer Network meets bi-monthly. The CVH Council’s main channel for communication is Off the Cuff, a brief, weekly newsletter that is sent out most Monday mornings. In addition to information on the CVH Council, the newsletter provides brief highlights of upcoming webinars and calls, questions posted from peers, and news and resources from national partners related to heart disease and stroke.
