2021 has brought a new administration as well as new challenges and opportunities for federal and state policymakers. Join NACDD Board Member and Government Affairs Steering Committee Chair Dr. David Hoffman and NACDD State Policy Analyst Liz Ruth to learn more about whatâs happening in state and federal legislation and policy trends.
Liz Ruth is NACDDâs State Policy Analyst. She is responsible for working with staff across State Health Departments to develop policy approaches and documents to advance chronic disease prevention and control. Prior to joining NACDD, Liz spent two years as a research fellow in CDCâs Office of the Associate Director for Policy and Strategy where she provided subject matter expertise on communicating with policymakers. Before CDC, Liz spent nine years in Washington, D.C. in a variety of policy roles. She served as a legislative assistant in Senator Deb Fischerâs office where she was responsible for a policy portfolio including health, labor, and education issues. Earlier in her career, she worked in government relations for several associations where she monitored federal and state legislative developments and worked with state affiliates to address emerging issues and develop strategies to respond.
Dr. David Hoffman of Delmar, N.Y., serves as Associate Dean for Academic Initiatives and Government Affairs, and as an Associate Professor of Ethics and Health Policy at Maria College in Albany, N.Y. Additionally, he is a Clinical Professor at the State University of New York at the Albany School of Public Health, Department of Health Policy Management and Behavior, and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Albany Medical College Alden March Bioethics Institute. He was formerly the Associate Professor and Director of the Healthcare Management Program at Maria College. Dr. Hoffman chairs the Policy Committee of the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors.
