Walkability Action Institute
Since the WAI project began in 2015, interdisciplinary teams represented states (2015), regions (2016-2020), and local communities (2021-present). Across 36 states, NACDD trained 99 locations, including state, regional, and local teams. NACDD also provided training and support to the United States Virgin Islands and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands through its island walkability efforts.
Upon completing a WAI course, all teams are invited to voluntarily participate in the National WAI Alumni Network Community of Practice (CoP) peer group. The CoP group meets bimonthly and serves as a forum for WAI Alumni to come together and share, learn, mentor one another, and receive guidance from subject matter experts or peer speakers on various active transportation topics.
