Healthy Communities

NACDD continues to collaborate with CDC to move the national agenda on nutrition, physical activity, and obesity prevention forward. In support of the U.S. Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities, 32 interdisciplinary teams have participated in an NACDD Walkability Action Institute and collectively established new policies, systems, and environmental improvements that are estimated to reach more than 18 million people.

NACDD worked with CDC State Disability and Health applicants, paired with local communities, on the Reaching People with Disabilities through Healthy Communities pilot project that promotes making healthy choices the easier choices in areas where people live, learn, work, play, pray, and receive care – with a principle focus on disability inclusion.
