Atlanta, GA (October 4, 2024) – The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD) has been awarded $21 million in funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to grow workforce capacity and offer training and technical assistance to public health chronic disease professionals in all 50 states.
NACDD is one of 48 organizations that received funding via the five-year National Partners Cooperative Agreement from the CDC Public Health Infrastructure Center (PHIC). NACDD was funded for 28 projects focused upon its mission – to improve the health of the public by strengthening state and national leadership and expertise for chronic disease prevention and control. NACDD also promotes social justice and well-being so communities can build healthier futures.
“NACDD is grateful for our partnership with CDC in the continued effort to strengthen the chronic disease workforce and infrastructure across the U.S.,” said NACDD CEO John W. Robitscher. “Nearly half of our population suffers from at least one chronic disease condition, and I am pleased our work to reduce chronic diseases will continue via this vital funding.”
As part of the new five-year agreement, NACDD will support CDC’s goal to increase the knowledge, skill, and ability of the U.S. public health workforce to deliver essential services, improve organizational and systems capacity and capacity building to address health priorities. Collaboratively, these efforts will strengthen public health practice through initiatives that advance the nation’s public health infrastructure and performance.
“A strong public health infrastructure is a crucial component of chronic disease prevention and control, and we are very encouraged to see innovative projects funded in the new cooperative agreement,” added Marti Macchi, NACDD Chief Program Strategy Officer. “This funding would not be possible without the expertise and collaboration of our staff, our consultants and Members in state and territorial health departments, as well as our partners at CDC.”
