This year NACDD’s Center for Public Health Leadership partnered with the Task Force for Global Health and the Center for Compassionate Leadership to develop a six-week evidence-based program to help emerging and established leaders in chronic disease prevention and control deepen leadership capabilities to face the unique challenges, rapid changes, and uncertainty of working in public health.
More than 60 NACDD members were able to join the course and build self-compassion, compassion for others, compassion at work, and resilience. Participants reported increased ability to lead with compassion, manage stress in both their personal and work lives, handle difficult conversations, and contribute to compassion culture.
“I was so grateful to have participated in the Spring 2023 cohort of Compassionate Leadership for Public Health Practitioners offered by NACDD. As we began to emerge from the pandemic, wounded and burned out with significant moral injury, I was finding myself with no patience left for my colleagues, my family, myself. This interactive program, with deep reflective internal work and a tremendous opportunity to foster connections with like-minded individuals across the country, was so well-timed and necessary as we begin to heal and recommit ourselves to the critical work that lays ahead. Thank you to NACDD and the faculty at the Center for Compassionate Leadership for planting these seeds!"
