Cancer Prevention Across the Lifespan

The Cancer Prevention Across the Lifespan (CPAL) program addresses cancer risks and protective factors across all life stages.

In partnership with CDC, NACDD develops resources to empower public health practitioners and community leaders to implement evidence-based strategies to reduce cancer risk in their communities.

Reducing Environmental and Occupational Cancer Risks: A Toolkit

As part of the CPAL program, NACDD partnered with the Lowell Center for Sustainable Production at the University of Massachusetts Lowell to create a groundbreaking resource.

This toolkit helps public health leaders implement ambitious cancer prevention strategies, particularly in underserved communities. It includes up-to-date data, best practices, case studies, and other resources to support practitioners in developing comprehensive plans to address environmental and occupational cancer risk factors.

Equitable Cancer Prevention Requires Us to Think Bigger

CPAL focuses on topics at the intersection of cancer risk and health equity, including environmental contaminants, adverse childhood experiences, and specific populations’ unique needs and concerns.

Environmental Health

With increasing product recalls and health concerns over toxic chemicals, consumers demand safer, healthier, and eco-friendly products.

NACDD collaborated with the Lowell Center for Sustainable Products at the University of Massachusetts Lowell to present a series of webinars on environmental carcinogens and their impact on cancer risk.

Adverse Childhood Experiences

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) are traumatic events in childhood, like violence, abuse, or neglect. Research indicates that ACEs can lead to lasting health issues such as mental illness and substance abuse.

Research suggests preventing ACEs might lower cancer risk. ACEs induce toxic stress, heightening risks such as heavy alcohol and tobacco use, drug abuse, obesity, and risky behaviors that contribute to cancer.

Explore our webinars to learn best practices to mitigate ACEs and their health impacts.

American Indian & Alaska Native Health

Mainstream models and approaches to research can be a poor fit for American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Explore our webinars focusing on cancer prevention in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Discover successful local models and culturally appropriate approaches, and learn about historical trauma and Indigenous resilience related to health outcomes.
