BUILDING HEALTHY MILITARY COMMUNITIES TOOLKIT

A RESOURCE FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE HEALTH PROVIDERS AND COMMUNITIES

Mental and Behavioral Health

Finding and accessing mental health resources can be challenging. Additionally, Service members are often hesitant to pursue help because of concerns about military career implications, confidentiality and command notification, perceived stigma, and perception of being “broken” or “falling from glory”. Life stressors including relationship challenges, administrative or legal problems, financial strain can all contribute to the need for behavioral and mental health support.

This section will provide resources to support the individual Service member and policies and strategies that health departments and communities can initiate to improve access to this much-needed assistance.
