NACDD Welcomes New Board President Gabriel Kaplan of Colorado

ATLANTA (April 20, 2018) – National Association of Chronic Disease Directors CEO John W. Robitscher, MPH, announces today that Gabriel Kaplan, PhD, is the Association’s new President of the Board of Directors. Dr. Kaplan currently also serves as the Chief of the Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention Branch in the Prevention Services Division at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE). He also oversees the work of the Division’s Health Access Branch.

In this role, Dr. Kaplan manages eight public health work units that seek to improve policies on health promotion and disease prevention to transform the delivery of care within health systems and to improve the linkages between community-based prevention and the clinical care system.

Prior to this, he was the Director of the Epidemiology, Planning & Evaluation Branch in the same division at CDPHE, where he directed the data analysis and research units that support public health prevention services and interventions. Before joining CDPHE, Dr. Kaplan worked as an Assistant Professor of Public Policy at the University of Colorado, Denver School of Public Affairs. 

Dr. Kaplan was elected to the NACDD Board in FY 2017 and served as President-Elect until April 1, when he assumed his current leadership role. 
 
“We are delighted to have Gabriel take the helm for our Board of Directors and bring his energy, enthusiasm, and commitment to chronic disease prevention to the national landscape,” said Robitscher. 

Dr. Kaplan specializes in health care reform, evidence-based public health practice, and public sector management. He teaches as an adjunct professor in Health Systems, Management and Policy at the Colorado School of Public Health. 

“I’m excited and honored to have this opportunity to help the Board steer NACDD toward its vision of strengthened leadership, capacity, and expertise for chronic disease prevention and control across our 50 states,” said Dr. Kaplan.

Dr. Kaplan received his PhD in Public Policy at Harvard, and his Master of Public Administration at Princeton. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Columbia University.
