NACDD Partners With Lakeshore Foundation to Address Health Equity and Disability Inclusion for People with Prediabetes
In 2020, about 1 in 6 people with disabilities (16.2%) in the United States had been diagnosed with diabetes, compared to 1 in 14 people without disabilities (7.5%), highlighting a health inequity for this population. Since 2017, NACDD has partnered with the Lakeshore Foundation to ensure that the National Diabetes Prevention Program (National DPP) Lifestyle Change Program is an inclusive program for people with disabilities.
The CDC cooperative agreement DP17-1705: Scaling the National DPP in Underserved Areas fostered this partnership and supports this disability inclusion work in many forms including, but not limited to, curriculum and online module development, Braille conversion, education through webinars, and inclusive toolkit and resource creation and dissemination.
