On April 25, 2024, the Division of Laboratory Sciences (DLS) Clinical Standardization Programs (CSP) team in the Clinical Chemistry Branch participated in the 2024 Partnership for the Accurate Testing of Hormones (PATH) annual committee meeting.
PATH works to strengthen partnership engagement to improve laboratory tests for chronic disease biomarkers and to increase awareness of quality in clinical laboratory testing. In addition, PATH provides educational activities and toolkits for clinicians and public health on the importance of accurate and reliable laboratory tests and the public health benefits when standardized tests are used.
DLS Director Dr. Benjamin Blount was a guest speaker and shared DLSā longstanding commitment to standardizing laboratory testing, which dates back to the 1950s with the standardization of lipid and lipoprotein measurements. Drs. Alicia Lyle, Uliana Danilenko, and Hubert Vesper from CDC CSP presented data on the status of analytical performance of vitamin D tests currently being standardized, and of free testosterone and parathyroid tests in need of standardization.
The 2024 hybrid annual meeting drew more than 30 participants in person and online and featured presentations from the American Thyroid Association Committee of Laboratory Services, Association for Diagnostics & Laboratory Medicine – Science and Practice Core Committee, and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Challenge.
