Developing and Adapting Tools to Align
with the CDC Evaluation Framework
Ensuring effective cancer prevention and control requires a strong emphasis on program evaluation, data collection, and evidence-based decision-making. The National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP), the Colorectal Cancer Control Program (CRCCP), and the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) are advancing their efforts to optimize these critical functions. NACDD is working to improve program implementation by developing and adapting evaluation tools that align with public health evaluation best practices.
Enhancing Cancer Screening Through Improved Program Implementation
NBCCEDP is refining its strategies to deliver breast and cervical cancer screenings more effectively. To do so, programs are strengthening partnerships with healthcare providers and leveraging evaluation insights to guide improvements.
CRCCP is increasing the efficiency of colorectal cancer screening efforts by integrating evaluation-driven strategies into healthcare systems. These strategies will allow programs to identify gaps and implement specific interventions to improve screening rates.
Building Stronger Data Collection and Evaluation Processes
At the core of this initiative is the enhancement of data collection and evaluation frameworks. NPCR is leveraging digital tools and data-sharing capabilities to strengthen its role in tracking cancer trends and informing policy decisions. These advancements provide State Health Departments with the necessary data to tailor interventions, measure program outcomes, and continuously improve public health strategies.
NACDD and its partners are focused on increasing evaluation capacity among grantees by developing tools that align with CDC’s Evaluation Framework. This work includes:
- Refining program evaluation plans to enhance monitoring and reporting.
- Developing interactive decision-support tools to help State Health Departments optimize screening strategies.
- Adapting readiness field guides to help programs assess and improve their evaluation practices.
- Creating tailored webinars and training sessions that equip program staff with data-driven decision-making skills.
These tools and technical assistance efforts will ensure that grantees and State Health Departments can effectively measure program impact, optimize resources, and implement more effective cancer prevention initiatives. NBCCEDP, CRCCP, and NPCR staff can expect to learn more about tools and technical assistance offerings from this project through NACDD’s Cancer Council and Cancer Peer-to-Peer Learning Program. Why This Matters for NACDD Members
For NACDD General Members, these improvements provide an opportunity to engage in and support cancer program evaluation at multiple levels. By integrating structured evaluation methods and leveraging data-driven insights, Members can contribute to refining program implementation and maximizing public health impact.
