Rigorous Program Evaluations: What Are They and How Do I Conduct Them?
Tuesday, July 9, 2019, 2:30 – 2:50 p.m. ET
Sponsor: CDC Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP)

This 20-minute coffee break will be an informative presentation on rigorous program evaluations and how they can be used to demonstrate impact and accountability. Learn about appropriate rigorous evaluation designs and considerations for employing rigorous methods, in addition to steps that can ensure evaluators get the most out of their rigorous program evaluations.

A rigorous evaluation can be defined as “an analysis measuring the net change in outcomes for a particular group of people that can be attributed to a specific program using the best methodology available, feasible and appropriate to the evaluation question that is being investigated and to the specific context.”  A rigorous evaluation helps to understand the change in outcomes attributed to a specific program or how a program contributed to those outcomes. There are a number of considerations that should be taken into account when conducting a rigorous evaluation. This presentation will briefly explore considerations for employing rigorous methods as well as appropriate evaluation designs and steps that can be taken to ensure evaluators are getting the most out of a rigorous evaluation.
