Enhancing Stroke Systems of Care Through Evidence-Informed State Policy Interventions

Tuesday, Feb.12, 2019, 2:30 – 2:50 p.m. ET
Sponsor: CDC Applied Research and Translation Team in the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention

Join the 20-minute coffee break delving into the findings from two policy evidence assessment reports that examined evidence for policy interventions to improve pre-hospital, hospital, and post-hospital stroke care. No need to register, simply join this event via Adobe Connect and call, 1-855-644-0229, Conference ID: 8247938#

Stroke systems of care improve patient care and support throughout their health care journey—from the first symptoms of stroke, Emergency Medical Services transport, and hospital care, to follow-up with outpatient providers. This presentation will describe the findings from two policy evidence assessment reports that examined the evidence base for 16 policy interventions to improve pre-hospital, hospital, and post-hospital stroke care. The presenter will walk through how the reports prioritize stroke policy interventions by evidence level (best, promising quality, promising impact, or emerging) in a user-friendly online format with downloadable resources. Future considerations for improving stroke policy intervention implementation and evidence will also be discussed. These findings are designed to help state decision makers and public health organizations determine which policy interventions may be useful in their state’s efforts to improve stroke systems of care, and ultimately, patient care.

Celebrating American Heart Month
This February, the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) is celebrating American Heart Month by promoting messages, resources, and expertise that can help people have healthy cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular disease—the number one killer of Americans.

Cholesterol can be a confusing topic. It’s easy to get mixed up about what the numbers mean and how diet, activity, and medicines affect them. What’s more, nearly 1 in 3 Americans has high cholesterol. But many people don’t know it, because high cholesterol usually has no symptoms. That’s why this year DHDSP is promoting the importance of having conversations about cholesterol.

DHDSP is encouraging all people to know their cholesterol numbers by getting a cholesterol screening, talking to family about any history of high cholesterol, and having a conversation with their health care team about making healthy lifestyle changes or taking medicines to lower cholesterol. You can help spread this important message and encourage all people to have healthy cholesterol levels by:
