Celebrating American Heart MonthThis February, the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) is celebrating American Heart Month by promoting messages, resources, and expertise that can help people have healthy cholesterol levels and prevent cardiovascular diseaseāthe number one killer of Americans.
Cholesterol can be a confusing topic. Itās easy to get mixed up about what the numbers mean and how diet, activity, and medicines affect them. Whatās more, nearly 1 in 3 Americans has high cholesterol. But many people donāt know it, because high cholesterol usually has no symptoms. Thatās why this year DHDSP is promoting the importance of having conversations about cholesterol.
DHDSP is encouraging all people to know their cholesterol numbers by getting a cholesterol screening, talking to family about any history of high cholesterol, and having a conversation with their health care team about making healthy lifestyle changes or taking medicines to lower cholesterol. You can help spread this important message and encourage all people to have healthy cholesterol levels by:
