Online Cohort Courses and Virtual Leadership Programs

 

Virtual Programs, including online cohort courses, for Chronic Disease Directors and identified emerging leader chronic disease unit staff are designed to build leadership and management capacity and chronic disease competencies. The courses, in particular, have repeat offerings several times each year.

 

New Chronic Disease Directors Orientation and Leadership Network

A four-week online cohort orientation course to facilitate newly hired Chronic Disease Directors’ learning and skill acquisition on a wide range of topics and enhance effective public health leadership. The course networks new Chronic Disease Directors with each other and with Directors having longer tenures, and it links participants to information, technical assistance, and resources available at the national level.


Cohort Courses for Emerging Leaders

Online cohort courses incorporate theoretical and evidence-based literature with current public health and health-specific examples and cases. They feature guest speakers and promote active peer-to-peer interaction through use of hands-on activities and discussion forums, for example.

Foundations of Public Health Leadership
A cohort course of six modules that provides an overview of leadership practices and applies leadership science to the field of public health.

Strategic Leadership in Public Health
A cohort course of six modules that provides an overview of strategic leadership within an emphasis on systems change within the context of a public health state agency.

Additional Virtual Programs

Chronic Disease Director & Emerging Leader Coaching Program
A six-month program, which engages paired coaches and new Chronic Disease Directors / emerging leaders, to build leadership capacity in chronic disease prevention and health promotion. Through one-on-one interactions with an experienced Chronic Disease Director, new Chronic Disease Directors / emerging leaders receive practical advice, guidance, and support for further development of their leadership competencies.
