Bruce Hathaway joined the NACDD team in 2019 and serves as a consultant with the Diabetes Program. In this role he will be offering technical assistance and support to 1705 Organizations and to State Health Departments. He comes to the organization with more than 25 years of public health experience including work at the local, state, and national levels. In his most recent role at HealtheConnection, Bruce administered a large grant that focused heavily on scaling and sustaining the National Diabetes Prevention Program in underserved communities.
Prior to joining HealtheConnection, Bruce worked for the American Cancer Society where he advanced cancer research, prevention, patient care and advocacy. Before returning to the local level, he served with the YMCA of the USA, where he worked on several grants including the CDC-funded ACHIEVE Initiative. Bruce’s longest engagement, however, was with the New York State Department of Health, where he focused on both chronic and communicable disease prevention and control.
Over the course of his professional career, Bruce has worked with dozens of communities and organizations across many states to examine and improve their most pressing health issues. He has also participated on several state and federal advisory groups designed to increase chronic disease awareness and improve health across the nation. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Binghamton University and is currently working on his master’s in public health degree.
