Evidence-Based Pediatric Weight Management Programs

This project is creating opportunities for peer to peer learning on successful examples within states on how to support the use of evidence-based pediatric healthy weight programs HWPs) in clinics, recreation centers, federally qualified health centers and other venues.   Topics to be addressed in these webinars include evidence-based healthy weight management; how to engage health care provides, health care systems and communities; financing and sustainability; lessons learned; evaluation and non-traditional partners.

This project aligns with recommendations from the National Academy of Medicine (IOM), which recommends taking action in multiple settings where children learn, live & play; 2007 American Academy of Pediatrics Expert Recommendations and the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, which recommended that providers screen children aged 6 years+ for obesity, and provide or refer to intensive lifestyle modification programs (2010 and 2017).
