April Reese

April Reese is a Public Health Consultant with the Diabetes Technical Assistance and Support Team. She focuses on developing and implementing training opportunities with an emphasis on keeping adult learners engaged during virtual learning. She also facilitates state-to-state networking and mentoring through her support of the Professional Development and Mentoring Workgroups of the Diabetes Council.

April came to NACDD in 2018, following a career in North Carolina state government that spanned more than three decades, and included leadership positions in Administration and Public Health. She served as the Lead for diabetes prevention and management, and later she also led heart disease and stroke prevention activities. April is a former chair of NACDD’s Diabetes Council and was elected to serve in 2010.

April is an experienced leader who has expertise in evaluation, policy, and program planning. She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Management Academy for Public Health and the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services Leadership Program. Since joining NACDD, she has completed a certificate in Workplace Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and is applying these skills to her current scope of work.

April has a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She is married and has two sons and three dogs.
