Anya Karavanov is dedicated to building the capacity of public health sector, with more than 20 years of program management experience.

Dr. Karavanov specializes in creating and implementing social change campaigns for government agencies, nonprofits, and private foundations. She has led projects that provided clients with qualitative and quantitative research, strategic planning, marketing communication, and evaluation.

Dr. Karavanov has helped clients tackle a variety of complex health issues, such as substance abuse treatment and prevention, tobacco cessation, obesity, cancer, and other chronic diseases. As part of her work with NACDD, Dr. Karavanov works with CDC’s Division of Cancer Prevention and Control on the ScreenOutCancer initiative.

Prior to joining NACDD, Dr. Karavanov served as a Senior Vice President for Crosby Marketing, where she led research on a comprehensive communications contract for the Office of Communications at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, helping the agency to expand its message reach and effectiveness.

Dr. Karavanov also has served as an assistant professor and professional lecturer at American University and Johns Hopkins University.

She received her MA from American University and her doctoral degree from the University of Maryland, College Park.
